What it can feel like
- Difficulty turning your head, for example when checking blind spots
- Knots and tightness across the top of the shoulders
- An ache that builds through the work day
- Waking up with a stiff or "cricked" neck
Common causes
Looking down at screens, sitting with the shoulders rounded, carrying bags on one side, stress and pillows that do not suit you.
How we help
We find which joints and muscles are involved, then use gentle adjustments or mobilisation, soft-tissue release and simple exercises you can do at your desk. We will also suggest changes to your screen height, chair and pillow.
How long recovery takes
A recent stiff neck often eases within a few visits. If it keeps coming back, we focus on the habits and strength that keep it away.
Your first visit
Your first consultation takes about 25 to 30 minutes and costs $180 before GST. We listen to your history, examine you, explain what we find and what we recommend, and you decide whether to start care. No referral is needed, and insurance claims are supported.
When to see a doctor urgently
Please see a medical doctor or go to A&E (or call 995 in an emergency) if you have:
- Neck pain after an accident or fall
- Neck stiffness with fever, headache or sensitivity to light
- Pain or numbness spreading down the arm with weakness
Frequently asked questions
Why does my neck feel stiff every morning?
Your pillow height, sleeping position and how much you looked down the day before are common reasons. We can check what is contributing.
Are massages enough for shoulder tension?
Massage helps many people feel better for a while. If the tension keeps returning, joint stiffness and posture habits usually need attention too.
What are good desk stretches?
Chin tucks, shoulder rolls and gentle side-bends of the neck are a good start. We will tailor exercises to you.
